1:1 Teaching Assistant (Maternity Cover)
Required Nov 18 until the staff member returns from maternity leave
Pay Scale: Thurrock Local Government Scale, Band 3 point 10 (£11,484)
25 hrs per week - 45.8 weeks per year
We are looking for a Teaching Assistant to join our enthusiastic team at Treetops School. The successful applicant will be supporting one pupil who has an individualised timetable with a main focus on Speech and Language. The role would include developing the pupil's self-help skills, communication and language skills through 1-1 intervention, group intervention, implementing total communication and also supporting the pupil in the classroom. The assistant will be supported by the speech and language team as well as the class teacher and primary key stage leader. There will be an opportunity to attend speech and language courses which focus on sign language, See and Learn (Sound programme) and how to support communication needs in the classroom. We would welcome applications from people with energy, patience and a genuine commitment to working with children with a wide range of complex learning difficulties.
The role includes
- Liaising with the Speech and Language team and Class Teacher on pupil's treatment programme.
- Delivering and planning interventions to targets set by Speech and Language and Key Stage Leader.
- Supporting the pupil in the classroom to ensure that she is reaching her full potential with learning, language and communication.
- Supporting the pupil to develop life skills such as self-help and fine motor skills.
- Supporting the pupil to use a communication book.
- Providing 1-1 intervention under the guidance of the Speech and Language Team and Key Stage Leader.
- Making resources.
- Administrative tasks.
Previous experience of working with children with special educational needs whilst not essential, is preferable.
