Job Title: Sports Instructor

Prime Objectives of the Post

To deliver high quality PE and school sports including sporting opportunities for other primary pupils. Responsible for co-ordination and development of school activities and local community links. To ensure that the school development plan complements and enhances school physical education programmes and activities.

Main Duties and Responsibilities

PURPOSE OF ROLE

To implement and deliver a broad, balanced, and inclusive curriculum for all pupils and to support a designated curriculum area.

· To monitor and support overall progress and development of pupils and therefore contribute to raising standards of student attainment

· To facilitate and encourage a learning experience which provides pupils with the opportunity to achieve their individual potential

· To share and support the Academy responsibility to provide and monitor opportunities for personal and academic growth

PRINCIPAL ACCOUNTABILITIES OR ACTIVITIES

· To teach pupils according to their educational needs

· To assess, record and report on the attendance, progress, development and attainment of pupils and to keep and provide records as required

· To contribute to reports, references and assessments of pupils as required

· To undertake designated programmes of teaching

· To ensure a high quality learning experience for pupils which meets internal and external quality standards

· To prepare and update PE materials

· To use a variety of learning and teaching methods which will stimulate learning appropriate to the pupils' needs and the demands of the specification

· To undertake assessment of pupils' learning.

· To work as a member of a team.

· To assist in the development of a PE Scheme of Work and relevant resources.

· To assist in the process of curriculum development and change in line with the Department and Trusts strategic aims

· To plan and prepare lessons

· To maintain records and to provide up-to-date and accurate information for registers

· To complete relevant documentation to assist in the tracking of pupils and to track pupil progress and use this information to inform teaching and learning

· To communicate effectively with parents/carers/guardians as well as external agencies where appropriate and to follow agreed communication procedures

· To take part in open evening and Parents Evening as appropriate

· To promote the general progress and well-being of pupils and form group as a whole

· To encourage student participation in wider school life

· To alert staff to problems experienced by pupils

· To communicate with parents/carers and external bodies over matters connected to the learning and well-being of the pupils

· To play a full part in the life of the Trusts community and support the ethos, aims and mission statement of the Trust and encourage others to follow this example

· To promote actively the Trust corporate policies

· To promote personal development as agreed

· To comply with the Trusts health and safety policy and practice

Strategic planning:

· Work with the Headteacher to develop and implement a PE and school sport strategy as part of their school development plan

School liaison:

Negotiate effectively with primary headteachers and relevant partners
Support the sharing of good practice across the family of schools
Develop and implement a programme of events and competitions
Make effective use of resources and facilities across the family of schools.

· After School Clubs/Teams

· To organise and run sports clubs outside of lesson hours. To organise School teams to participate in sporting events. To organise intra school sporting competitions.

School to community links:

Establish and develop sustainable links with local sports clubs and other community providers
Encourage and support young people to access local sports clubs and community provision
Make effective use of community providers to support and enhance school sport provision across the Trust
Work with local sports partnership, governing bodies of sport and sports clubs to improve and promote their provision for our pupils.

Raising standards:

Develop and implement a school sports programme across the school that is inclusive of all young people
In conjunction with other partners, identify, support and develop talented young performers
Work with the headteacher to monitor and evaluate the impact of PE and school sport in raising whole school standards.

General

· To further support the climate for learning, contributing to the overall work/ethos and aims of the School.

· Make a significant contribution in actively promoting equality and diversity at School and further develop a culture of achievement and high expectation.

Develop effective working relationships with schools, partners, and other agencies as appropriate;
To fully participate in CPD activities;
To undertake any other duties as directed by the Headteacher.

MISCELLANEOUS

To undertake any further tasks which could be reasonably expected by the Trust.

The post is one that carries responsibility for the wellbeing and welfare of children and the post holder should be aware of this and the need to act accordingly.
