ART TECHNICIAN

Salary Range: Point 15 £15,781

Pro rata Salary: £7,283.54 to £9,468.60 per annum

20 to 26 hours per week (subject to negotiation) Monday to Friday

Temporary post from February 2018 until July 2019

The purpose of the post is to assist the art and design department to provide technical help for students in a variety of areas as well as maintaining the efficient running of the department. Knowledge of art room practise within the specialist areas of painting, print making and 3D would be an advantage, but is not essential. Experience with photographic equipment and processes is also an advantage, however training can be given.

This post requires an organised and flexible team player, preferably with some previous experience in a similar environment. The person appointed will have good practical and organisational skills and be able to work as part of a team in a large and busy department.

Duties and Responsibilities

1. Regularly maintain

  • the art and design rooms and other art and design working areas
  • equipment and resources
  • work with students as required

2. Assist in setting up equipment/resources for Art, Sculpture and Photography lessons.

3. Assist in running the system for stocking rooms and ensuring that equipment and resources are in good order under the supervision of the Technician Co-Ordinator.

4. Such other duties as may reasonably be requested by the Head of Department and Heads of Subjects.

5. Such other duties as may reasonably be requested by the Principal.

Selection Criteria

1. Previous background experience in Art & Design, with the ability to use a range of specialist art and design equipment, including photographic equipment.

2. Ability to show initiative in ensuring the department functions effectively.

3. Strong practical skills essential.

4. Knowledge of Photoshop and Illustrator is desirable but not essential.
