Learning Support Assistant - Potter Street Academy (Primary)
Do you have a passion to help and support those who need it most? We are appointing LSAs to work with our children, and help them accelerate in the key areas of reading, writing and maths. Experience is useful, but the drive and commitment to make a difference to children is more important. A flexible approach towards the following roles in school is essential:
Class-based - working at the direction of the teacher with small groups of children on focussed learning activities. Positive, initiative-taking approach needed so pupils are stimulated and keen to succeed. Good communications and team-working with other adults in the school.
1:1 support - working alongside a specific child supporting their learning for part or all of the school day. Using an IEP, targets and resources to stimulate learning and progress; reporting to the teacher. A sensitive, caring and understanding approach essential. This may involve an element of physical care for children with disabilities.
Interventions - working regularly with a child or small group to master a skill or acquire knowledge, often following a programme but adapting to need where appropriate; assessing and reporting progress of children.
The successful applicant will have:
a proven track record or strong desire to support children's progress
high expectations of learning and behaviour
GCSE grade C or above, or equivalent in maths and English
effective team working skills
An understanding of phonics is desirable but not essential, as training will be given. Previous experience of teaching according to the Read Write Inc scheme would be an advantage.
Start date is 4th September 2017. The position will be band 2, point 12 with London Fringe allowance payable. The post is for a nominal 27 hours per week.
Potter Street Academy is a primary school sponsored by the Passmores Cooperative Learning Community. This is an exciting opportunity to make a real difference to children's futures within an improving school.
