Are you looking for an exciting new challenge? Oak View School is a good school (Ofsted 2012) and due to the promotion of our Deputy Headteacher, we are looking for an inspiring and imaginative leader, to take over and continue to develop this role. We are a growing special school and currently have 93 pupils who have severe and complex needs with a high percentage within the autistic spectrum. We belive that it is vital to support all SEND pupils through growing the teachers and leaders in Special Education for the future. Part of the DHT role is to continue to be involved with local TT leaders as well as developing our outfacing support for SEN in mainstream provision.

· You will help to develop creative new approaches to learning throughout the school.

· We are an outfacing school and aim to further develop links with local mainstream partners to benefit pupils and young people in each setting

· You will share responsibility for safeguarding with the Head.

· You will support pupils with establishing positive behaviour for learning and develop whole school approaches to PSHE, for example curriculum days to explore specific aspects of relationships and wellbeing.

· You will be a key player in moving the school from 'good to outstanding'.

· To take responsibility for CPD.

· There will be a teaching commitment with the role, which is currently 30%.

Your role will be flexible and will reflect the priorities of the school improvement plan. You will have particular responsibility for driving forward specific aspects of the SIP. Our new Deputy Head will be able to model consistently good to outstanding teaching, and to support colleagues to successfully fulfil their roles. There will be significant leadership and management time to allow the successful candidate to focus on school improvement priorities.

The school is part of the Essex Special School Education Trust and works closely with 19 other special schools in Essex to drive forward and improve outcomes for SEND pupils in special and mainstream provision.

You will need to demonstrate a proven track record of outstanding teaching, working with pupils with a range of Special Educational Needs and will have experience of leading new initiatives. You will be a reflective practitioner who is proactive and constantly seeks to improve provision and outcomes for all pupils.

Oak View School is a primary school for up to 85 pupils with Complex Learning Difficulties which include, Autistic Spectrum Disorders, Speech Language and Communication Difficulties, Physical and profound leaners and ADHD. It is situated in Loughton, Essex. In September 2012 we received a judgment of 'Good' overall with 'outstanding' for Bahaviour, and Safety of Pupils, under the previous Ofsted inspection framework. This judgment reflects the commitment of both pupils, staff and the wider school community. Our pupils are engaging and unique and have a wide range of abilities and needs. We follow the EYFS and National Curriculum and adapt these to meet the individual interests and needs of our pupils. We use a wide range of approaches and strategies to support learning including multi sensory approaches, Makaton,PECS, SCERTS,social stories,TEACCH approaches and Essex Steps amongst others. We use the many amenities in the community including work experience opportunities and in the development of independence and life skills in preparation for life beyond school. We have achieved, for the third time Autism Accreditation through the National Autistic Society. The focus of our School Development Plan is to continue to adapt and develop our curriculum and provision to ensure that our pupils make excellent progress and enjoy their time at Oak View School. We prioritize social communication skills, emotional regulation and positive behaviour for learning, so that our pupils are able to access a broad curriculum and develop both academic skills and skills for living and learning

Information about the School

Oak View is a specialist setting catering for pupils aged 3-19 who have severe and complex Learning Needs (SLD/PMLD). Oak View offers a bespoke curriculum that focuses on a pupil’s immediate learning needs and long-term aspirations and creatively explores ways to remove barriers to engagement and learning. We have a significant focus on the development of functional communication and Emotional Regulation (readiness to learn), including the importance of meeting Sensory Integration needs. We use a wide range of evidence-based strategies to meet the needs of our pupils. We also work collaboratively with a range of therapists to support a holistic approach to our pupil’s development.

We are incredibly proud of our hard-working, highly trained specialist team of staff who work in partnership with all agencies and stakeholders to strive towards the best possible outcomes for all our learners.

We are part of The Epping Forest Schools Partnership Trust, a Multi-Academy Trust of fifteen Primary and one Special School all based in the Epping Forest District. Along with our SCITT (School-Centred Initial Teacher Training), School Improvement Team, Well-being Service and Resourced Provisions based in three of our schools, we are a leading educational organisation in Epping Forest.

EFSPT was formed in 2018 from a consortium of schools that had worked together for over 20 years and are committed to collaborative working to ensure the best possible outcomes for our children and school communities.
