We are looking to appoint a SENCO with an opportunity to lead on SEN across the school and to join a well established team in a school that holds the Inclusion Mark and is a recognized Centre of Excellence for SEND. The school is well resourced with SEN specialists, high level of support/teaching assistants to meet the ever changing needs of our children. The successful applicant will have at least three years' experience of teaching, working with special needs children and be enthusiastic, highly organised, professional and flexible; one who can co-lead our Inclusion Team.

Extensive experience of children with emotional and well-being issues and those with special needs supporting teaching and learning are essential. This school has a Nurture Unit an ASD facility and a new Speech and Language Resource Base.

The main scope of the job will be:

A strategic view of the SEND provision required to meet individual needs.

Identify and oversee the implementation of intervention programmes.

To address the needs of pupils who need particular help to overcome barriers to learning.

Working alongside teachers and support staff to identify and support children with SEND, emotional / behavioural and Child Protection issues

Managing and supporting delivery of pastoral support to pupils.

Managing and overseeing pupils at risk of exclusion from and/or otherwise working to a modified timetable.
Undertaking and supporting comprehensive assessments of pupils to determine those in need of particular help or signposting assessment needs to appropriately trained specialists
Assisting teachers with the development and implementation of Individual Support Plans (ISP's).
Supporting and developing 1:1 mentoring arrangements with pupils and provide support for distressed pupils individually or in small groups.
Challenging and motivating pupils, promoting self-esteem.
Establishing constructive relationships with carers/parents, exchanging information, facilitating their support for their child's attendance, access and learning and supporting home to school and community links.
Developing, implementing and monitoring systems relating to pastoral systems etc.
Developing, supporting and implementing appropriate behaviour management strategies.
The exact focus of the role will be decided at School level and will take into account the needs of the School and the development needs of others, both within and beyond the school.

To plan and implement procedures which facilitate the sharing of staff expertise through INSET.

Supporting the management of other support staff.

As a member of the SLT support and promote the vision and aims of the school.
