A newly refurbished part of the building has recently been developed to offer short-term day placements for pupils from local mainstream schools who have challenging behaviour. The provision is known as "Choices". This has been jointly funded by the local authority and the local schools and is an indication of the high regard in which Wells Park is held . The school has 40 residential places for boys who live at the school from Monday - Friday and 10 day pupil places. These pupils are placed at the school thought the Local Authority Statutory Assessment Teams and all boys have a statement of Special Educational Needs or an EHC Plan. Choices take 8 pupils (boys and girls) on a three month placement.

The Headteacher will focus on the running of the educational aspects of the school while a Director of Strategy will focus on developing the strategic role of the school in outreach and the Essex vision of a school led improvement as a member of ESSET ( Essex Special School Education Trust).
