Required for September 2015, a dynamic, well-qualified and committed Key Stage 4 Co-ordinator of Science to assist in leading and developing our curriculum at Key Stage 4. It would be an advantage for applicants to have the ability to teach A Level Chemistry but this is not essential.

The successful candidate will join a supportive Science team and continue the excellent work already underway. The Science Department currently consists of ten full time teachers, three subject specific technicians and two subject specific Learning Support Assistants, who are clearly focused on raising standards of teaching to "outstanding" and ensuring all pupils make excellent progress. Our A2 results for 2013 were Physics 100% A*-E, 75% A*-C, Chemistry 91% A*-E, 73 % A*-C, Biology 100% A*-E, 63% A*-C and our GCSE results were Physics 100% A*-C, Biology 97% and Chemistry 95%. Core Science and Additional Science achieved a 46% A*-C pass rate.

You will be able to demonstrate the following:

  • Leadership and management skills
  • Qualified Teacher Status
  • Excellent classroom practitioner with the ability to teach and assess at KS4
  • Ability to build effective working relationships with students and staff Excellent communication skills Ability to use, manipulate and understand student data in order to raise standards

The Bromfords School and Sixth Form College is a school where students achieve well and are part of a strong, caring community. In 2014 61% of students achieved 5+A*-C GCSEs, including English and mathematics, and progress in both English and mathematics was above the national average.

Our school's progress was recognised by Ofsted In November 2014 when they stated, "The Headteacher is driving improvement and fostering a culture of high expectations and aspirations". Our students are our greatest ambassadors and it was found that they "…take responsibility as prefects, school councillors and house-captains. They wear their uniforms and their badges for achievement, regular attendance and commitment, with pride."

We are keen to appoint dedicated staff who are eager to support our students to achieve in all aspects of their school life and who want to be key contributors to our school's success.

We encourage visits from prospective candidates to meet members of our school community and to experience our school at first hand. If you would like to do this please contact Ann Pullin, PA to the Headteacher on 01268 474485 or via email or recruitment@bromfords.essex.sch.uk.

A recruitment package, including financial assistance and benefits, is available.

The Bromfords School and Sixth Form College is committed to safeguarding and promoting the welfare of children and young people and expects all staff and volunteers to share this commitment. The successful applicant will be offered a position subject to full pre-employment checks including an enhanced DBS disclosure. Closing Date: Monday 27th April at midday. Interviews: Week commencing Monday 4th May 2015.

Information about the School

Our school is making rapid progress since its inspection in November 2022. A recent review by the Local Authority commented on the ‘sea change’ noted in students’ behaviour and the culture and ethos of the school. Our 2023 outcomes were the best set of Key Stage 4 results achieved by Year 11 students since 2016. Our Year 7 intake continues to be oversubscribed, with a waiting list.

Our school is a strong, caring community underpinned by our three core values of achieve, enrich and prepare. Our school’s culture is focused on the principles of high expectations and aspirations for all members of our community; actions and conversations, however difficult, are always underpinned by kindness; that we communicate and share success; that we value each other’s views and opinions; decisions are evidence based and student centred.

Our Governing body is committed to safeguarding and promoting the welfare of all children and young people and expects all staff and volunteers to share in this commitment. The successful applicant will be offered a position subject to full pre-employment checks including an enhanced DBS clearance, satisfactory medical checks and 2 satisfactory references.
